GOLF BALL.

CAMBRIDGE CLUB’S FUNCTION. HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL EVENING. The Cambridge Town Hall was transformed Into a fairyland of pastel shaded hangings, twinkling lights and natural greenery last evening on the oocasion of the annual ball of the Cambridge Golf Club, which was largely attended by golfers and their friends. A large round chapdelier from which hung deep fringes of pale pink and green, illuminated by many bulbs pf light, was the centrepiece from which similar fringed panels of shaded pink radiated to the corners of the hall. A raised orchestra dais with a crescent-shaped silver tinsel background formed the main decoration on the stage. This was charmingly enhanced by small pylons bedecked with pink paper surmounted by. clumps of white heath. Feathery bamboo massed in the background and on the sides added to the fairylike effect. Leaf-green drapings and coloured lights reaching from corner poles completed a delightful scheme. In vivid contrast to the hall decorations, those in the supper-room were carried out in red, white and blue—a canopy of streamers overhead, the shaded lights and the draped walls all being arranged in the national colours. Added to this, clumps of heath and bamboo arranged in profusion in the corners and around the walls afforded an effective combination.

The supper tables, beautifully arranged, were the work of Mrs H. L. Nixon and Mrs E. Nickle. A wide , central table, adjoined on either end by long narrow tables, was arranged with a tall bowl of golden wattle and autumn shaded Iceland poppies. Tiny vases of sprigs of wattle, Iceland poppies, marigolds and heads of cerise camellias were placed at intervals from the central bowl to the corners of the table, and with similar lldral arrangements on the other tables made a very effective decoration. Muslo played by Theo Walters and his Band, from Peter Pan Cabaret (Auckland) was a feature of the funotion. The host was the president, Mr A. Wilkinson, who was assisted by his daughter-in-law, Mrs K. L. Wilkinson, who was wearing a frock of platinum lace and fur coatee.
