FAREWELL AFTERNOON.
FOR MRS COOKE. A very pleasing afternoon was held at the residence of Mrs H. Steer at Te Awamutu recently. The lounge was beautifully decorated with Iceland poppies and spring flowers. Almost a full membership of the Glee Club of the Women’s Institute met to bid farewell to Mrs Cooke, their excellent accompanist. During the afternoon items were given by the Glee Club. Mrs W. F. Woodward contributed to the programme with a very pleasing solo.
Afternoon tea was served by the members, during which Mrs Steer was asked to make the presentation to Mrs Cooke of a beautiful bedroom clock on behalf of the Glee Club members. Mrs Steer spoke very feelingly of Mrs Cooke, not only of her ability as an accompanist, but her many sterling qualifies and how she had been an inspiration to many with her courage and determination. Mrs Steer expressed the sincere wishes of every member for the future.
Mrs Cooke suitably replied. Mrs Wood then presented Mrs Cooke with a beautiful bouquet, and a very happy afternoon was brought to a close with the singing of “For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow.”
