OKOROIRE EVENING.

MILITARY BALL. FIRST ANNUAL FUNCTION. A scene of colour and gaiety was presented In the Tirau Hall recently when the Okoroire Troop of the Auckland East Coast Mounted Rifles held their first annual ball. Artistic decorations had been carried out in the large hall, the entire ceiling being covered with red and white streamers, while festoons of gaily coloured lights were suspended down the centre of the hall to the walls, which were also covered with Empire flags and ribbons. The military uniforms worn by a number of those present added further colour to the ballroom. Rousing military two-steps and marches were included In the programme, also a number of novelty waltzes. Novelty dances were won ■by Miss A. Goodwin and Mr B. Stewart, and Mr D. Bottomly and partner. A Matamata band played excellent musio. Visitors were present from Rotorua, Hamilton and all surrounding districts, and the ball proved an unqualified sucoess. Much of the success of the evening was due to Mr K. Dee, Mr C.
