MOTORISTS IN COURT. SEVERE IMPACT AT FRANKTON CYCLIST KNOCKED DOWN. Several charges relating to traffic offences were brought against motorists by the Hamilton police in the Magistrate’s Court, Hamilt9n, to-day, before Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M. William John Ladd, a salesman, of Claudelands (Mr A. G. Ward) pleaded not guilty to negligent driving on May 11 at Frankton. Thomas John Richards said that on May 11 he left his work on a cycle at 4.30 p.m. He was Injured in an accident but could not remember any details until he regained consciousness in hospital. He suffered extensive injuries including a fractured skull. Ivan Christoff said that he saw the accident. The ImpaTt was a severe one and the cyclist was carried along for some distance after the impact. The speed of the car was about 25 miles per hour, but It accelerated when approaching the intersection. Sergeant H. Fryer said defendant had stated that he made a careful look-out for approaching traffic but could see nothing on the road, so proceeded across the intersection. He did not see the cyclist until the impact, when defendant went to apply the brake but instead stepped on the accelerator. Defendant was fined £2. Crossed Railway Line. Henry Richard Thompson, of Clarkin’s Road, was fined £1 and 10s costs for failing to keep a vigilant look-out for approaching trains at the Victoria Street railway crossing and also with crossing the line when it was not clear. In a statement, defendant said he did not recall seeTng other cars stop .at the time he crossed. He said the bell was ringing but the railway official had not walked out with the ” Stop ” signal. Ernest Robinson, of Hamilton, was convicted and fined 10s and 10s costs for failing to keep to the left when turning at the Bridge Street-Grey Street corner at Hamilton East on June 29. Sussex Bond, a farmer, of Pukeroro, pleaded guilty to cutting the corner of Bridge Street and Grey Street on June 29 and was fined 5s and 5s 'costs. Arising out of a collision with a cyclist in Bridge Street on May 25, Wilßam Mowat (Mr W. J. King) was charged with negligent driving and was fined £1 and 10s costs. Defendant pleaded guilty. Borough Charges. Several charges were brought by Inspector W. E. Nicholson, of the Hamilton Borough Council. A service-car driver, Dennis George Kelly, of Cambridge, was fined £i and lCs costs for driving without a driver’s license. No Lights.

Harry P. Carr, mechanic, of Cambridge, .was charged with riding a motor-cycle without a light and a warrant of fitness. A fine of 10s and 10s Costs was imposed on each charge. Dorothy Kendle, of Hamilton, was convicted and fined £1 and 10s for riding a cycle in Massey Street without lights.

Messrs Tuck and AValkins Ltd. were fined 10s and 22s costs as a penalty for charges of operating a motor truck without a warning device and without a wind-screen wiper.
