BURWEN PEDIGREE STUD. DISPERSAL SALE ON THURSDAY. OPPORTUNITY FOR BREEDERS. The most Important complete dispersal of pedigree pigs yet to take place In the Waikato will be held next Thursday when the entire Burwen pedigree stud of Berkshire and Tamworth pigs will be auctioned at the farm, Te Rapa. There Is no better known stud to Dominion pig breeders than the Burwen Stud for Its phenomenal successes In the show-ring dur-* lng the past few years, including the winning of ohamplonshlps at the Royal Show, have consolidated Its claim as the premier show stud of the Dominion. 'However, It is not only In the show ring that the stud has made such a wonderful reputation for itself for the records of prepotenoy of Burwen sows and the exceptional maturing qualities of their litters have also contributed . to the outstanding suocess the stud has achieved. Notable In the offering will be members of the three generations that hold a world’s record, their litters averaging 53.91 b at 8 weeks of age. This record Is only typical of the Burwen pigs. Burwen pigs Incorporate the best Imported and Dominion strains, strains that have been proved by every worthwhile test. To give some Idea of the show-winning record of the. stud over the past, few years it may be mentioned that during the 1936-37 season four pigs from the stud at the Waikato Summer Show, Royal Show, Christi church. Pukekohe and Auckland Shows secured seven championships, one supreme ohamplonship, five reserve championships, 13 first prizes. The Burwen Stud has invariably swept the board at every show at whloh it has been represented and this season’s winnings provide an Indication of Its wonderful record. Outstanding Boar to be Bold. Outstanding In next Thursday’s offering will be the sale of the great Imported boar, Wollnnebar Ranker, a I boar who has proved himself by the ! quality of the stock that- he has left. ; During the 1936-37 season he was un- | beaten In the show ring and. hls winnings Include champion at the Wai- ! kato Show, champion at the Royal Show, 'Christchurch, champion at Pukekohe and champion at Auckland. This great boar Is now In his prime : and should attract considerable attention at the sale. There are other outstanding entries that could be mentioned individually, but particulars are available in Hie catalogues that can be obtained on application to the auctioneers, the Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company. Dairyfarmers should be particularly interested In the sale for it will afford them the opportunity of obtaining pedigrees of the highest class. The records of the Waikato Pig Recording {and Research Association lias shown that the pedigree animal must be the 1 dominating factor in the commercial . pig and the best way. and indeed the [ only way, in which the farmer can lmJ prove his commercial herd Is by the
introduction of proved pocugree animals. The offering, to be sold without reserve, will comprise 120 pigs which will be made up of two stud Tamworth boars, 39 Tamworth sows, 19 Tamworth maiden sows, 19 Tamworth boars, 1 stud Berkshire boar, 4 Berkshire sows and Berkshire hoars.
