BRITISH MARRIAGE BILL.

READY FOR ROYAL ABBENT. SPONSORS CONGRATULATED. (pmclal Wireless.) (Received July 24, 3.15 p.m.) RUGBY, July 23. The matrimonial Causes Bill is now ready for the Royal assent. The effect of the measure will be to add to adultery, formerly the sole ground for divorce, the additional grounds of desertion, cruelty, or incurable Insanity. The feature of the bill Is the first clause, which provides that no petition for divorcb may be made within a given period after marriage. This was fixed originally at the years, but the period was reduced by the House of Lords to three, and this was approved by the House of Commons today with discretion given to the courts to accept a petition sooner in cases of exceptional hardship or depravity. The Rill has been 18 months in its passage through Parliament and Mr A. P. Herbert (Independent—Oxford University), and its other sponsors were to-day the recipients of many congratulations.
