The journal Water Transport discloses that after four years’ work and the expenditure of 15.000,000 roubles the plans for the Don-Volga canal must be abandoned and commenced all over again. The journal blames wreckers for the failure of the preliminary. The canal will be 372 miles long and Is intended to irrigate 10,000 acres, to link the Black Sea with the Baltic, and to counteract .the evaporation of the Caspian Sea by diverting the Doa-'.-water to the Volga.
