Convictions for Illegal betting within the Sydney metropolitan district and Newcastle for the six months to June 30, numbered 1800, and fines amounted to £13,427. The Government contemplates stamping out starting-price betting along the linos of the Queensland legislation, and the matter will be a major Issue at the forthcoming New South Wales election. “ The suppression of starting-price betting shops and other channels for off-the-course betting has been responslble f•»r a complete re\j\ q «>f racing throughout Queensland,” said Mr. P.
