In the House of Commons Viscount Cranbourne, in answer to Mr. G. Mander, said the London, Amamloshime, Loochoo and Aleutian Islands were included in the non-fortifleation zone fixed by the Washington Naval Treaty. As the treaty had lapsed It was open to Japan and America to take whatever steps they thought fit as regards fortifications. He was not aware of their intentions regarding the matter. The islands which Japan held under mandate would continue to be governed under the article preventing their fortification.
