The South African-Auckland Rugby encounter to-day was a great exhibition of fine Rugby, with the Springboks living well up to their reputations. They threw the ball about in fine style, although the forwards did not handle as well as the 1 930 British team, but generally they did their job oe.ter and lea 4 the handling to the backs. Craven, Harris and Babrow were particularly impressive as inside backs, having speed, handling ability and guile. Williams was a fine winger. A feature of their play was thp relentless tackling. Tney came at top pace at the Auckland backs and levelled them without slackening speed. Taken in all the visitors were really good, but did not appear invincible and, but for a few lapses in the Auckland tackling, the score would not have been as great. Combined Team’s Prospects. The prospects of the All Blacks are impVoved by this match and if the Waikato-King Country-Thames Valley combined team's forward* play as forwards and the backs tackle all the time they must stand an even chance. The Auckland learn, conceding weight, did very well. Dick, the Auokland winger, had only two chances to show his paces but was willing and keen. The game evened up exceptionally well and the crowd was frantic with excitement when Prentice opened up a b resit for Auckland's score. Auckland were doing all the attacking in the final quarter but the visitor’s backs again were up smartly to squash movements before they were properly under way. Babrow demonstrated his class by again scoring a really brilliant try, threading his way through in wonderful style to bewilder the defence. It was one of the nicest tries seen at Eden Park. ' The game was very exciting, with the Springboks undoubtedly a great, team, possessing speed in the backs hoavy, forwards, and generally, at attackers, they gave Auckland no chance to break clear. It was the cleverness of the inside backs, Harris and Babrow, and the speed of the threequarters that gave the visitors another fine try. RUGBY FOOTBALL.
