SOCIETY FOR PREVENTION OP CRUELTY TO ANIMALB. •• i w m try to make any animal I have In my care very happy.**

Dear Boys and Qlris, When I wTlte our pledge above. I often think to myself lr that could he written up In every Bchool, and Children were all taught to observe It, how New Zealand might be transformed. In a few years almost every rnan and woman would love animals; there would then be no unkindness or neglect. I have Just been reading about the work of the Society In New South Wales. | There is a nice little story which will interest you: There the dogs have a Society of their own; It is known as the Tall Waggers’ League. Dogs who are members of this wear a medallion on their necks. On one side Is engraved: “ I’m lost. Please ring R.S.P.C.A., 87221.” Quite recently a case occurred where through being a member, the Identity of a man fatally Injured was established. The man was greatly attached to his little Jog; It accompanied him everywhere, and he was never seen without It. He was rather old, and one evening he set out to meet his wife who was returning home. Crossing the highway, he was accidentally killed, but no one knew who he was. The dog was greatly distressed, and was wandering about. Some one caught it -with a view to caring for It, noticed the i 'iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiuiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinii

disc with the words “Pm lost. Flesse ring RhS.PX.Av” Tihe police rang the number and then found that tlia owner or the dog was the man who was killed, and so the little “Tall Wagger ” bad rendered a useful service. You may be sure he was well cared for afterwards. Bom. tlm. aro I save you a tew nice little poems about animals. I have just come across another, called “ I’m Glad : I’m glad that I was not too proud The day I came on cruelty, To try to shame a grinning crowd, And take a puppy borne with me. I’m glad to think I never might Grow too Indifferent and old To suffer on a winter night For trapped things dying In the cola. I’m glad I do not grow too wise Too strong and resolute and brave To lay with tear mist In may eyes A rose-bud on a kitten’s grave. If any of you should find a little poem which you think would be of interest to the other members. Just send It along to me. Love to you all, TINKER BELL. iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiimimiii
