WOMEN’S DIVISION.
TE PUNINGA BRANCH. The Te Puninga branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union held its July meeting In the local hall recently. Mrs E. G. Allison presided over a very good attendance of members. A demonstration of seagrass work given by Mrs E. G. Patterson was greatly appreciated. During the afternoon competitions were won fry Mrs Donald and Mrs Henry. The social afternoon which is to be held in August was discussed and finalised. A competition’for a home-made nutloaf was won by Mrs Allison, Mrs Woolford and Mrs Hines tying for second place. Miss R. Donald was the winner of a competition for the best hand-work-ed handkerchief, with Miss Martinson and Mrs Donald second. A most enjoyable afternoon was brought to a close with tea served by i the hostesses for the day, Mesdames Allison and Patterson.
HAMILTON BRANCH.
A combined effort on the part of the Hamilton branch of the Women‘’s Division and the Te Kowhai branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, was responsible for a very enjoyable social function In the Te Kowhai Hall on Wednesday evening. The hall was tastefully decoratid with coloured streamers, and musio was played by the Regent Orchestra from Hamilton. Competitions were won by Miss Beryl Dimmer; ladies’ euchre, Mrs V. Hinton 1, Mrs Minchln 2; men’s, Mr Les. Pollock 1, Messrs F. Rothwell and R. Limmer, equal, 2. Mr E. C. Hockin, chairman of the Te Kowhai branch,-.extended greetings to the members of the Women’s Division and visitors from other branches. Mrs J. W. Chapman, on behalf of the Women’s Division (Hamilton), gave a very pleasing and interesting address on the past efforts of the Women’s Division, and, thanked their Te Kowhai friends for their assistance towards their common objective. Mr Mellsop, Provincial President of the New Zealand Farmgave a brief address on the position of the industry to-day and asked for renewed support of the Union’s activities at this critical period. Visitors from Whatawhata contributed to a successful function. Mr L. Robinson was M.C. NGARUAWAHIA BRANCH. A meeting of the Ngaruawahia Branch of the Women’s Division was held in the Orange Hall recently, Mrs Empson presiding. The creed was read and a letter was read from the Women’s Institute inviting members of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union to a; birthday party to be held in the Masonic Hall on July 21. A social was held in the Orange Hall in aid of funds. It was proposed by Mrs Clarke and seconded by Mrs Hutt, that money be sent to the Community 'Chest. Sympathy, was expressed by members at the d,eath of Mr Empson, the president’s husband, also the sickness of Mr and Mrs Hutt. The offer of Mrs Smith to send a parcel of clothes was accepted. The competition was won by Mrs Clarke. "A nut loaf” competition will be held at the August meeting, also for an oven cloth, the cloths to be sold for, Division funds. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chair.
KARAKARIKI BRANOH. The monthly meeting of the Karakariki branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers’ Union was held recently. Mrs Magner presided over a fair attendance of members. The meeting opened with the reading of the Creed and six new members were welcomed. Correspondence was read and dealt with. Arrangements have been made' for a social to be held on Friday, July 30. A dainty afternoon tea was served by the hostess, Mrs Rowe.
