Tauber Presented to Queen Mary. Queen Mary, accompanied by Princess Alice Countess of Athlone and the Earl of Athlone. attended a gala performance of "Paganini” at Hie Lyceum Theatre, London, in aid of Queen Mary’s Hospital for Ihe East End, of which Her Majesty is patron. As Queen Mary entered the theatre she was presented with a bouquet of lilies of the \alley. She warmly applauded ihe singing of Richard Tauber and Evelyn Layp. Mr Tauber was presented to Her Majesty in Ihe second interval, and she spoke to him in German, asking him how he liked being in England and Jiow long he was staying. Auckland Singer’s Success In London. Blrrelt O’Malley, tenor, formerly of Auckland, is with the 8.8. C., and his broadcasts of light music, under the name of Don Carlos, are very popular. Budapest String Quartet In N.Z. A celebrity concert is to be presented in Auckland under Hie auspices of the. National Broadcasting Service, in aid of the Mayor's relief fund. Outstanding performers will he tlie Budapest String Quartet, comprising Josef lloismann, Alexander Schneider, Boris Kroyt and Mischa Schneider. Another prominent performer will be the New Zealand contralto, Mary Pratt. 44 Alda " at Wellington. The Royal Wellington Choral Union sang Verdi's opera “Aida” on Thursday night, under the direction of Stanley Oliver. The chorus and orchestra numbered 300. The soloists were Thea Phillips (English soprano), Lionello Cecil \ustralian tenor), Mina Caldow Auckland contralto), and Harison Cook (bass).
