HOUSING TENDERS.
SOME UNSATISFACTORY. GREATER CO-OPERATION EVIDENT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Friday. The Under-Secretary for Housing, Mr. J. A. Lee, M.P., states that tenders closed a few days ago for the erection In two contracts of 127 houses on the Casey Estate, Auckland. The tenders were not at all satisfactory but on the other hand for 15 houses at Otahuhu there was a splendid response, 28 being received. The prices of the lowest were most fair and reasonable and he wished to congratulate tlie builders concerned on their practical co-operation. The scheme at the Casey Estate will be divided into smaller contracts to give those builders who tendered excellent prices for Otahuhu but were unable to obtain a contract and to give the. unsuccessful tenderers a chance to amend the tenders. The Minister remarks that the new development of small builders showing a willingness to co-operate was most, welcome and bears out that there Is room in the scheino for large ami small organisations. \t. the moment, he said, there were 25 different contractors engaged on the construction of State houses.
