SEAMAN IN COURT.
ALLEGED DESERTION. NORWEGIAN REMANDED. A charge of deserting from the ship Ilerberg at Auckland on July 17 was laid against Charles Mikkelson (35), a Norwegian seaman, in the Police Court, Hamilton, to-day by SeniorSergeant G. 11. Lambert. Accused appeared before Mr G. K. Sinclair, J.P., and was remanded for a week to appear at Auckland. Accused was arrested on warrant from Auckland shortly after mid-day yesterday by Constable Mac Lean in Hamilton. Y.M.C.A. Appeal.—Tn Auckland the appeal for funds for Ihe Y.M.C.A has realised £11,615, which is staled to be only £4OO from the objective. Wellington Cathedral.—The silo selected for the proposed Anglican C.ilhedral at Wellington is partly Crown land. The Government lias been approached regarding its acquisition, and tlio acting-Prime Minister the Hon. P. Fraser, lias agreed to lav the mailer before the Cabinet. He stated: "The Government can bo depended upon to take a fair view of the matter with the interests of all concerned in mind."
