STOCK SALES. TE AWAMUTU YARDINQS. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, Hamilton, report as follows on their Te Awamutu stock sale held yesterday, when an exceptionally heavy entry of all classes of cattle came forward, the total handled being 878 head. There was an upward trend in beef values. The entry included a large number of pens of medium and heavy bullocks, which sold briskly. Fat bullocks oii account Messrs. Bourne Bros., realised from £l2 18s to £l3 Is; Messrs. W. J. and H. H. Thompson, were paid up to £l2 5s for a draught, while medium weight cattle on account Mr. J. Twomey, realised £ll 7s 6d to £ll 10s. Another vendor in this section was Mr. H. Wellington, whose cattle brought up to £l2. The same eager spirit was evident among buyers for the fat cows and heifers. A particularly large entry of these was handled and many of prime quality were included. Fat Polled Angus heifers on account Mr. McGee made up to £9 2s 6d; Mr. Gordon Walker was paid from £9 5s to £lO for heavy fat Shorthorn cows. Messrs. Turner and Cummins obtained up to £lO 2s 6d for an entry of prime cow beef, while £9 10s was paid to Mr. W. Ferriman for his offering. The beef market altogether was very strong. A considerable number of 'unfinished and store and boner cows were traded without marked fluctuations in values. The advertised yearling heifers met with a satisfactory sale and the bulk changed hand 3. Heavy fat bullocks made £l2 10s to £l3 Is; medium, £ll 12s 6d to £l2 10s; prime fat Shorthorn cows, £9 5s to £lO 12s 6d; heavy Polled Angus heifers, £8 10s to £9 2s Gd; medium Polled Angus cows, £7 d'ss to £8 2s 6d; light fat heifers up to £7; he&vy fat Jersey cows, £3 to £6 10s; unfinished Jerseys, £4 5s to £4 17s plain stores, £3 10s to £4 2s 6d; boners, £2 10s to £3; others up to £2 ss; good yearling heifers, £3 5s to £4 15s; others up to £3 2s Gd. The advertised store steers sold exceedingly well, the empty cows likewise creating brisk bidding. Store Hereford 3year steers made £9 11s to £lO 3s; empty Polled Angus cows, £4 5s to £G; empty Shorthorn cows up to £4 14s. The entry of dairy cattle exceeded 200 head and roughly half were heifers. A large gathering of buyers was present and competition good. There were four small herds included in the entry, comprising some nice types of dairies, while also in the heifer section was a fair representation of choice cattle. Bidding was consistently firm and prices on a par right through, with late quotations. Best July-Aug-ust calvers —Jersey heifers made £lO to £l3; medium, £8 5s to £9 15s; more backward, heifers in poorer condition, £7 10s to £7 15s; good conditioned young Jersey dairy cows, £9 5s to £lO 15s; medium, £8 10s to £9 ss; Inferior up to £8 ss. A fair yarding of sheep comprised supplies of fat wethers, ewes and lambs and the advertised store hoggets. Fat sheep made prices fully equal to those obtaining at Fraukton last Tuesday, all selling freely. The line of 300 store ewe hoggets on account Mr. S. Smith, were in keen request and realised. 33s each. The demand for other lines of m.s. and wether hoggels drew brisk competition as well. Wether hoggets made 2ls to 23s 7d; m.s. hoggets. 22s fid to 255; heavy fat wethers. 33s to 365; medium, 27s *6d to 32s 6d; light, 24s to 27s 6d; heavy fat ewes, 28s fid; medium, 22s to 245; light up to 2is fid; prime lambs, 28s to 31s; medium, 2 is to 2fis; forward up to 235. Tile pig department contained only medium supplies. Most In the fat section were unfTnished and medium porkers, with a small proportion of heavy fat pigs. The range of rates did not alter from last Tuesday’s quotations. There was an Improved tone in the store and weaner section, but prices made a further appreciable advance. Medium porkers made £2 5s to £2 8s; light, 37s fid to £2 4s; heavy store pigs, 29s tc 345; medium, 24s to 27s fid: slips, 2ts to 235; weaners, 16s to 20s; inferior up to 15s; sow pigs up to £ i 2s Bd. WAITERIMU DIBPERSAL. Messrs G. W. Vercoe and Co., Ltd., report having held a clearing sale on account of Mr S. W. lies, of Waiterimu, on Wednesday. There was a large attendance of buyers; the herd came forward in good condition and a satisfactory «alo resulted. The sheep met with a spirited demand and the usual farm sundries and implements sold on a par with rates ruling at other clearing sales. A scattering of heavy beef cattle sold on a par with other recent sales quotations, while a heavy entry of boners and stores realised the usual prices. A few dairies sold satisfactorily. but did not bring high prices, the quality being only plain. ROTO-O-RANGI CLEARANCE. Ihe New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, Hamilton, report as follows on a clearing sale held at Roto-o-rangi, Cambridge, on Wednesday, on account .Mr. A. Hewson. A succesotul sale eventuated. The class of catt)e, however, was a slight deterrent, some being only in fair condition, coming off hilly country, and others fairly late. Veverthuess, the large attendance of buyers competed fairly eagerly and the range of prices was satisfactory. Good class young stock sold beat, but rates fo: all were about le\cl with the quotations ruling at recent sales. A few sow pigs soldi particularly well and animated competition was shown on the farm horses. A large quantity of general farm sundries changed hands Gocd young Jersey cows made 28 to £lO 10s; medium conditioned young cows, £6 15s to £7 15s; plain and backward, £5 10s to £6 15s; inferior and late up to £5 10s; farm mare, £SB lOs; sow and litter, £8; breeding sows, £5 10s to £6 12s 6d. ADDINGTON MARKETB. LITTLE CHANGE IN VALUES. Entries were of normal size at the Addington market and values showed little change. Store Sheep.—A small penning, mostly hoggets. Two-tooth ewes sold to 29s 6d, sound mouth to 28s, ewe hoggets to 255, adult wethers to 25s 4d. Fat Sheep.—A larger entry. Light wethers were down by Is a head. Prime sorts were unchanged. The representation of the latter was small. Extra prime heavy wethers made to 47s 4d, prime heavy wethers 37s to 4 2s, prime medium weight wethers 32s to 365, ordinary wethers 28s to 31s, light wethers to 27s 6d, extra prime heavy ewes to 28s 4d, prime heavy ewes 28s 6d to 31s, prime medium weight ewes 25s 6d to 27s 6d, ordinary ewes 20s to 245, light ewes to 19s 6d. Fat Cattle.—A total of 445 were penned, mostly unfinished sorts. Good beef sold well at a slight firming. Other classes showed little change. Best beef made to 35s per 1001 b, heavy to 325, and medium down to 20s. Extra prime heavy steers made to £l7 12s 6d, prime heavy £l3 5s to £l4 15s, prime medium weight £l2 5s to £l3 ss. ordinary £9 15s to £ll 15s, light to £9 10s, extra prime heifers to £l3 12s 6d, prime £8 10s to £9 15s, medium £6 to £7 15s, light to £5 15s, extra prime cows to £ll 12s 6d, prime £6 10s to £9, medium £4 15s to £6, light to £4 10s. Vealers, prime heavy runners to £6 18s 6d, heavy runners £4 to £5, medium runners £2 10s to £3 12s 6d, prime vealers £3 5s to £4 15s, medium £2 12s Gd to £3 2s Gd, small calves 20s to 50s. The store cattle were almost exclusively cows, good coloured lines being forward. There was a good sale for better-class cows. Dairy Cattle.—Few buyers were In attendance, and there was a sharp drop in values, approximating about £5 a head. The top price for heifers was £9 5s and for cows £9. Fat Pigs.—The porker market remained fully on a par with the advanced rates of last week until the last few races. There was then a general easing of 2s to 3s a head. Choppers: Prices were fully maintained. Baconers: Light weights practically maintained prices, but the heavier olass showed a decided easing, there being a drop of about 5s a head. Choppers made 53s 6d to £5 3s 6d, light porkers 28s Gd to 38s 6d, medium 39s 6d to 44s 6d, large 4Gs 6d to 49s Gd, extra heavy 51s 6d to 54s fid, average price per lb 6Ad to 7d; light baconers 54s 6d to £3 6s Gd, heavy £3 8s 6d to £3 16s Gd, extra heavy £4 Is 6d to £4 9s 6d, average price per lb Gid to 6£d. Store pigs: An extra large yarding, but the sale was an excellent one. Prices all round maintained the Improved rates of last week. Weaners were keenly sought after. Small weaners ils to 12s Gd, good 13s to lGs, slips 17s to 18s, small stores 19s to 21s Gd, medium 22s to 255, large 26s to 30s. HIDES AND SKINS. THE AUCKLAND SALE. AUCKLAND, Friday. There was a better demand by both tanners and exporters at ihe fortnightly skin and hide sale. Active competition resulted in higher prices for hides, particularly for cow hides, which advanced by about *d per lb’. Ox hides also Improved, while tallow was unaltered. Prices for best grades were:— Hides. —Ox (abattoirs), heavy, 9d per lb.; medium, 83d to 9id; light, BJd to 83d; ox (country butchers), lieavy r 84d to 83d; medium. 73d to Sjcl; light, 8d to Bid; cow (abattoirs), heavy, 8 3d; light to medium, Bid; cow (country butchers), heavy, 7 7-8 d; light to medium.
