FIVE SHILLING “TOTE.”
CHEAPER FACILITIES URGED. ATTRACTING LARGER CROWDS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, Thursday. The need for providing cheaper racing for the public by the installation of a live shilling totalisator and deduction gate charges was emphasised by the president of the Southland Racing Club. Mr W. T. Ilazlett, at the annual meeting of the club to-night. Mr Ilazlett suggested that racing clubs should get together with the object of providing t lie public with cheaper racing. At present racing was ioo dear for the public and he believed that if it, were cheaper more’ would attend race meetings. Mr Hazlett thought the time had come for (lie installation of a five shilling totalisator and lower charges for admission, but they would have to get the Government to help. If the Government and racing clubs could get together and do something the Government would probably get more out of the clubs.
