The full story of the sensational happening in the Point Chevalier branch 01' the Auckland Savings Bank on May 15 was told in the Police Court today when for the first time it was dis—closed that the manager tired a shot from the pistol. The accused was James Billings (39), a hushman, who was charged before Mr \\’. R. .\leKean, 5.31., that; with intent to facilitate the commis~ sion of the crime of theft he violently attempted to render James Godfrey \\'orboys incapable ot‘ resistance. The manager. \\"orhoys, gave evidence that. after being struck by :1 piece of lead piping he closed with the accused and, after going to the door to get assistance, he secured his re—volver and kept Billings in the office. Because the accused was edging to—wards him and wanting to shake hands with witness, he fired a shot near his (\\‘m'hoy‘sl feet to frighten him.
