OPERATIC SOCIETY.
RIVIVAL 111 HAMILTON. _ ANNUAL MEETING HELD. The annual meeting by the Hamilton Operatic Society was held in TOO- - Chambers last night. The president, Mr A. E. Sandford, presided over a good attendance. The chairman outlined the positon of the society. Prior to the last production there had been a credit balance of 223, but “The Boy" had not appealed to the public, and had re—sulted in a loss of £197. However, he was satisfied that with the enthusiasm now prevailing the position coult. be retrieved. A committee which had been set up a few weeks\go to interview business people and others interested had met with a cordial reception, and many promises or support had been received. There was a general feeling in the town that the society, which had gained a high reputation in the past, could, and should, be revived. The committee had decided to recommend that the Hamilton Operatic Society should again function. Regaining Old Popularity. Messrs Leo Foster, R. Powell. F. Carolan and others agreed that there was every prospect of the society regaining its old popularity. Similar societies in other parts 0! New Zealand were functioning successfully. and there was no reason why Hamilton should not fall into line. The liabilities ot‘ the society were looked upon as a debt of honour. and every efiort should be made to liquidate them. On the motion of the president. sec—_onded by Mr F. Carolan. it was decided that the society continue to function. and that eflorts be made to start rehearsals of “A Runaway Girl" immediately. Mr E. G, Amoore reported that he had communicated with J. C. \Villlamson, Ltd.. regarding royalties, and had been successful in getting a much lower quotation than usual. The flrm‘ was anxious to assist the society in rehabilitating ltseli. . The Auckland Operatic Society wrote that it had produced “A Runaway Girl“ very successfully a year or two ago.‘ and offered its costumes and scenery at a reasonable rate. Flrat Rehearsal withln Fortnight. It was decided that. instead of appointing a casting committee, as in the past, the producer and conductor have a free hand in this respect. ionicers were proposed. and will be consulted regarding acceptance. it was resolved that the first rehearsal of “A Runaway Girl " he. called within a fortnight.
