POULTRY 0N PARADE
WINTER SHOW SECTION. POPULAR CLABBEB REVIEWED. LIST OF THE AWARDS. With entries from all parts of the province, aggregating over 400, the poultry show which was arranged to be held in conjunction with the Waikatin Winter Show, was opened yesterday afternoon in a large marquee on the eastern portion of the show amusement area. For many years the poultry show was a popular feature of the Winter Show, and the revival this year, after a lapse of several years, was widely acclaimed as a progressive step on the part of the Waikato Winter Show Association. Keen interest was evinced in the section yesterday, and added importance was given to it by the fact that several North Island championships were contested, in addition to other awards. The judging, which was in the hands of Messrs. J. Nixon and G. H. Ambler, of Auckland, assisted by Mr J. Brooks, of Hamilton, was a big task as a result of the large entry, but the officials completed their work early in the afternoon. Many special awards were made, one of the principal trophies, the cup for the best bird in the Show, being secured by Mr N. Ross, formerly of Hamilton. The Judges were greatly impressed with the general standard of the exhibits, and commended the show as an excellent one. Mr Nixon said the show was a credit to the district. The leghorn classes were as good as any he had seen, while the orpingtons included some of the best birds he had ever Judged. The ducks, although small in numbers, were good in quality. He added that one point exhibitors had to learn was to distinguish between orpingtons and Australorps, in making their entries. The Championships. The championships of the North Island Poultry, Pigeon, and Canary Association were contested in the classes tor wyandottes. other than silver or white, Langshangs, and tumbler pigeons, and were awarded as follows: rnlfl WYANDOTTEB. / u olc * en COc k or pheasant: J. c.
