CARRIERS’ PROBLEMS
FIXED PRICES URGED. MIITING HIGHER COSTS. (Times Representative). MORRINSVILLE. Tuesday. "Phat the Minister for Transport be requested seriously to consider the fixation by the Government. of all cart.ase prices," was the substance of the resolution passed last evening at .\iorrinsvilie by a combined conference oi delegates representing the Hamilton. .\iorrinsville. Paeroa. Te Aroha. Mata.— mata. Te Awamutu and Taupirl Motor Carriers' Associations. Grave concern was expressed by several speakers at the effect, upon the carrying business of the Government‘s proposals rewarding new time and wake rates. .\lost or those present, it was stated, ilad contracted to cart‘ dairy produce at. a given figure and unless some compensating increase in‘ eartage rates was arranged many car—z riera would be unable to complete their contracts. It was further resolved to urge the Minister for Trans-‘ port to abolish all exempted areas and to ensure that all carriers be licensed. In regard to the exempted areas‘ several examples were quoted Illustrating the anomalous situations which frequently arose under this system. Several speakers criticised the conditions governing the purchase and carriaas oi’ bohby calves. it was contended that the carriers were being forced into the position of competitive stock buyers. and that it should be left to the meat companies to n: the actual purchase price of the selves. while the carriers themselves had a flat rate that would apply solely to the carriage ot the calves. it. was decided that the position sould be met by pressing for the adop—tion of the previous resolution in conuection with the general fixation of all outage prices.
