WOMEN’S DIVISION.
OHAUPOBRANCH. The first of a series of card evenings to be held by the Ohaupo branch of the Women’s Division was held in the social hall on Thursday evening. There was a good attendance and euchre, 500 and bridge were played. The winners were:—Bridge: Ladies, Mrs Forsyth; men, Mr Hamilton; “booby,” Mrs Somerville. 500: Ladies, Mrs Sole; men, Mr Bennett; “booby,” Miss I. Sage. Euchre: Men, Mr K. Woulds; ladies, Miss R. Edwards; “booby,” Mrs I. Edwards and Miss J. Edwards. TATUANUI BRANCH The monthly meeting of the Tatuanui branch of the Women’s Division of the Fanners’ Union was held in the Tatuanui Hall, the president, Mrs S. Elliott, presiding over a good attendance. The quotation for the month was 1 given by Mrs W. Darrall. An interesting demonstration regarding the making of attractive dishes from “left-overs” from meals was given by Mrs 0. Le Gallais. A competition for
a child’s frock costing not more than one and sixpence was won by Mrs Frampton, with Mrs L. \Voodley, second. In a competition for a vase of flowers, Mrs W. Darrall and Mrs Poynter tied for first place, with Mrs A. Wratt second. Afternoon tea was served, the hostcsses being Mesdames W. Northcott J. Nola and l“. J. Shirley. ELSTOW BRANCH. ‘ Mrs Stembridge presided over a. good attendance at the May meeting of the Elstow senior branch of the W.D.F.U. The president gave a full report of the annual provincial meeting held at Paeroa recently. The secretary was instructed to send notes of thanks to the hall committee, Mr W. A. Clarke and performers who assisted at the recent concert. The question of disposing of the funds raised at th< concert resulted in a decision to send 5;! to Provincial and £5 to the Community Chest. It has been decided to hold a family evening on July 8 and Mrs Burt and Miss McCormick were appointed to arrange a programme. ‘ Mrs Waugh gave n- very useful dc—monstratiou on the making of sugarbag mats, while Mrs Fitzgerald also gave several interesting demonstrations including stencillcd pictures, ‘ walnut buttons, I‘Dpu brushes and cruzy pot work The roll call was “Tongue Twisters” and quite a number of penny fines was ‘roccivcd as a result. The quilt was won by Mrs S. Stcmbridge. The money raised through the competition is to be spout on children’s clothes. , Mcsdamcs A. Nicol, Blackford and S. (‘umpboll were hostesses for the : afternoon.
