HEALTH INSURANCE.
FRIENDLY socisnas' PART. ASSURANCE BY MINISTER. (By Telemann—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. An assurance was given friendly societies by the Hon. \\’. Lee Martin. Minister in Charge of Friendly Societies. when he addressed the Dominion Council to-day, that whatever nationnl scheme covering sickness, invalidity. widows' and old age pensions. eithcr separate from or combined with a national health insurance scheme, might eventually be formulated by the Government. they would not suffer and that full opportunity would be given them to make representations regarding the part their organisations would play in the national scheme. The experience or the recent depres—sion. he said. had indicated the danger that might result when members were unable. through fort-es outside their control. to continue their contributions and thus lose tho henctlts for which they were COVCI'L'd. He referred to the growth of the friendly societies and paid a tribute to the work they were doing. In his presidential address, Mr C. H. Basuard. 01' Christchurch, expressed somc concern its to the future of Iriendly societies if the Government proceeded with its suggested scheme or health insurance.
