OBITUARY.

COLONEL SIR P. MARLING. WINNER OF VICTORIA CROSS. (omclal Wireless.) RUGBY, May 31. The death has occurred at his home in Gloucestershire of Colonel Sir Percival Marling, aged 75. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. SYDNEY, June 1. The death has occurred of Mr William Carroll, member of the Federal Senate for Western Australia. MRS BESSIE CASLEY. (Special tn Times.) MATAMATA, Monday. The funeral of the late Mrs Bessie Casley, who died in the Waikato Hospital after a long and painful illness took place on Saturday. The cortege was a very large one. The Rev. H. Daniel officiated, and the pall bearers were:—Messrs W. M. Griffiths, G. 11. Hawes, W. H. Carlson, R. R. Hawke, J. Thompson and W. A. Turkington. The late Mrs Casley, whose Maori nan'.o was Pirititi, was born at the Thames. She was married there in 1887. Mr and Mrs Casley spent some 20 years ih the Thames and Waihl mining districts and came to Matamata in 1912. Mrs Casley was very highly respected and among many messages of condolence was one from the Right Hon. M. J. Savage, Prime Minister. She is survived by her husband, and one daughter, Mrs Bluick, of Matamata. and two sons, Messrs J. and R. Casley. MR W. A. LUCAS. The death has occurred of Mr William Arnold Lucas, aged 71, of Dunedin. Mr Lucas was best known as manager of the Commercial Travellers’ and Warehousemen’s Association of Otago, a position he held for 27 years, resigning about seven years ago. He was known by commercial men from all parts of the world, especially by those from Australia, and New Zealand.
