PRINCE OF ORANGE. I j HIS G.N. HURDLES SUCCESS. PRODUCED IN FINE CONDITION. TRAINER RODE IN 1912. I Twenty-four years ago. A. J. Julian, then a horseman of no moan ability over hurdles, won the Great Northern | Hurdles on Nupper, but it was not j until Saturday at Kllerslie that ho was | aide to produce a winner for ttiis gruelling test, in his capacity as a trainer. Credit is due to Julian fori I lies way Prince of Orange was turned 1 out and apart from the rattier lucky j nature of Saturday's success, it was i well merited. Prince of orange, after showing 1 good form several seasons hack, failed to perform with any degree of sue- I ess in the tfißß-.U and Ifi.T.-.U) seasons, and tie was almost despaired of j as a racing proposition on account of | his unreliability. However, lie was taken in hand again Ibis season and disclosed a glimpse of his old form at 1

the Auckland Christmas meeting, where he scored three seconds and a first in as many starts. His showing at the recent Waikato meeting was anything hut enoouragaing, byt he was never at his best on a left-handed track and was consequently allowed to remain in the Great Northern Hurdle field of 1936. He has been . schooling Impressively at Te Rapa over the past month and it was his splendid jumping ability that stood to him on Saturday, and It is worthy of note that his figures for the race, 4.31, have never been bettered. The patient riding of the Hamilton horseman, A. Gilmer, was a contributory factor in the success of the aged son of Valkyrlan and Lassie Doon. It was a coincidence that the saddle ■cloth of Prince of Orange bore the Devil’s number, 13, and he drew that position at the barrier. FOXTON MEETING. JUBILEE 80NG WINS MEMORIAL.
