The Auckland Racing Club‘s Great .\orthern Steeplechase meeting was opened at Ellerslle to-day in perfect weather. There was a large attend—ance and the track was in excellent Ol‘del‘. The first division or the Jervois Handicap resulted in a fine finish, the Gisburne trained Hunting Mars scoring narrowly from Queen Nona and Matoru.
