Sir Thomas Inekip. Minister for the (Jo-ordination o! Defence. argued that a change in those responsible for direction would not affect the rate of progress in meeting the problems. As evidence of the progress already made he gave as examples the arrangements cuncludedl tor the manufacture of air frames and nlr engines for the Air Ministry. An Agreement had been reached with the Auntin Company. and with Messrs Bootes. two of the largest motor undertakings in the country. to erect tnotories for the production of air frames. and designs and lay out. including plans for railway sldlugs. diversion of roads. and aerodromes were already complete, and specificahtions tor tenders were about to be issued. As to engines. seven firms of acknowledged eminence in the manufacture of internal combustion engines—namely—Austin. Rootes. Daimler. Standard. Singer. Rover and \\‘olseley —were co-operatlng, and had put, forward a detailed scheme for securing; the necessary output with an absolute minimum of delay. : m
