The political correspondent of the Daily Mail states that at the request of Signor Mussolini the Italian Ainbassador, Signor Grandi, visited the Foreign Secretary, Mr Eden. . Signor Grandi intimated that if sanc—tions are continued Italy \\‘ill have to consider her membership of the League of Nations, also the extent to which she can co—operate in future in the settlement. of European affairs. The Ambassador said that, in the opinion of the Italian Government. the lifting of sanctions would relieve the situation in Europe and produce means for stabilising conditions and establishing the peace which the Powers desired. Italy had no aggressive intentions. The restoration of good relations between ltaly and Britain was Signor Mussolini's object. Mr Eden replied that, while Britain desired to enjoy good relations with Italy, the raising of sanctions was a matter for the League. Nevertheless, he undertook to communicate Sig-nor Grandi's statement to the Cabinet.
