The Royal Commission set up to investigate charges against the police in connection with betting raids sat again to—day, Mr Justice Markell presidinglirnesl llowe alleged he was "framed." that betting slips stolen from his tiles in the Police Department were "planted" on him after his arrest. Also, llowe alleged. he was struck by a constable and kicked across a room by it sergeant. in an effort to com—pel him to make a statement The officers involved in these allegations \\ei'e Sergeant Christensen and Constables Donneily and Grant, also a police agent. Kevin Lynch. ’ llowe stated that a magistrate had dismiSSCd a. charge of-illegal betting brought against him, whereupon the police told him they would get even with him later. A week afterwards, said Howe, he was arrested again and tlnetl £2O, ni—tliough he persisted that he was innorent.
