MUSIC IN ENGLAND.
| Puma: vsnv amen-r. l BETTER THAN FOR YEARS. Interviewed regarding her reception in London. Grace Wilkinson. a New Zealand singer who has just returned from abroad. rould not speak highly ;enough of the wonderful way in which ‘she was received. “Dame Clara Butt, who was responsible for my whole career, met me in London on my arrival. and through her good graces 1 was introduced into the inner circle or musical London. “Musical life in London has greatly improved. The past season has been a delightful one. and the outlook for music generally abroad is brighter than for many years. The Covent Garden Opera Company is doing woh- . derfully well under the new management, and Sadler \\‘ells, known as the l-Jngllsh home of opera, does everything in its power to educate the
public into having a true appreciation and love of opera, and they do it. ”You will always find a theatre td—day packed with most enthusiastic audiences. Opera is not the only side 01' music which is claiming great attention, and although I am not so t-losely associated with the lighter side of music at Home. the enthusiasm which is being displayed in music generally really does give one encouragement to go on.
“Yes." said Miss Wilkinson. “1 can truthfully say that the outlook regarding music in London is very bright indeed."
