It is oflicially announced that the date of King Edward's Coronation will be May 12. 1937. The King formally approved the date of the Coronation when he signed an Order—in—Council at a meeting of the Privy Council held at Buckingham Palace this morning. A VISIT 'ro FRANOI. King Edward on July 26 will unveil a memorial on Vimy Ridge to the Canadians who fell in the Great War. This announcement was made at the King's request by the Canadian Prime Minister, Mr \V. L. Mackenzie King, at Ottawa. It will be the first time a King of England has left his own country for several years. His Majesty's visit to France for the ceremony will he only of short duration, and it is possible he may proceed by air. The memorial is dedicated to 12.000 Canadians who fell in the war but who have no ”known graves. Their names are engraved around the base of the memorial. This measures 23'7ft. long with two main pylons, each i3Bft. high. The structure weighs 30,000 tons. It stands on Vimy Ridge, the capture of which was achieved by Canadian forces, in 240 acres of ground which the French Government presented to Canada. This area has been cleared and planted with trees which give the memorial a beautiful setting. At night it. is to be floodlit. The President or France and many other distinguished Frenchmen will meet there for the ceremony. and several thousand Canadian ex-service-men are to cross the Atlantic to be present at the unveiling.
