Attack on Bank.—-—At Auckland yesterday James Silllngs, in connection with the hold-up of the Palm; Chevalier branch of the Auckland Sav—ings Bank on May 14, was further remanded until June 4.
Harbour Brldaer—At :1 meeting held at Birkenhead yesterday it was de—cided to urge the Government to undertake the construction of the pro—posed bridge across the Auckland harlbour.
Dlonne Qulntupleta.—The Dionne quintuplets. the world‘s most famous babies, celebrated their second birthday yesterday. They are the first set of five in medical history to survive.

111-Nourlahed children.—-Dr. Grace Stevenson, medical oillcer of schools in Otago, states that there is a definite increase in sub-normal nutrition and malnutrition amongst children in her area.
Motor-Gycllu's condltlon.—The condition of Mr John Cal-I‘, aged 24, a dairy factory employee, who was seriously injured on the Great South Road, near Te Rapa, on Wednesday evening. is unchanged but he had a quiet nlght. The accident resulted when the motor-cycle Mr Carr was riding, was involved in a collision with a mob of cattle.
Sale of Anne Stampa.—“ It would be interesting to know just how much the returned soldiers get out of these Stamps and how much is eaten up by oince expenses," remarked a councillor at the monthly meeting of the Waipa County Council, Te Awamutu on Wednesday when the council had passed a resolution authorising the purchase or £lO worth of the stamps.
County Council's Examplo.——"l think it is an example to other local bodies at whose meetings blckerings occasionally occur, that, this council continues year in and year out retaining the most harmonious relations among its members and with the stair." remarked the chairman, Mr H. W. WIL son at the annual meeting yesterday of the Raglan County Council.
Natlonal Bank of New anand.—-The National Bank of New Zealand, Limited, has received cabled advice from its London otflce that the board or directors has recommended payment of a final dividend at the rate of A per cent per annum for the half-year ended March 31, making 4 per cent, free of tax, for the year. The year's dividend is unchanged and is equivalent to £4 185 10d per cent in New Zealand currency.
Bus Shelter at Claudelanda.—The provision of a bus shelter at the corner of Boundary Road and Grey Streets. Claudelands, was requested in an extensively signed petition, presented by residents of that area to the Hamilton Borough Council last even< ing. A similar request was contained in a letter from the Fairfleld School Committee. The matter was referred to the works committee.
Prime Mlnlstor's Threat—A deputation waited upon the Prime Minister yesterday at W'elllngton and complained that the formation of guilds by employers were seeking to undermine the Government's indus—trial legislation. Mr Savage replied: “I! we find anyone running us into a blind alley he is not going to keep us there long. They are not getting away with anything. We will cover the whole ground with retrospective legislation."
‘ Transport Amendmenu.—The second reading of the Transport Licensing Amendment Bill was moved in the Leg—islative Council yesterday by the Leader or the Council, the Hon. M. Fagan, who gave notice of his intene tion to move several amendments. Mr Fagan said an amendment would be made with the object oi‘ making it clear that a licensing authority must record the reasons for its decisions. It would also be provided that all verbal evi—dence taken before licensing authori—ties was to be on oath.

Timber Industry 'l'hrlvlng.—The timber industry throughout the King Country has never ‘Deen busier than at present writes our ‘Te ‘Kuiti correspondent. Some thirty miles between Te Kuiti and Taihape are daily employing increased staffs to cope with the accumulated orders.
Record Dividend and Mann—Another record dividend and bonus has been paid by Rolls-Royce. Limited, motor-car and item manufacturers, England, which distributed 2'21» per cent. for the year ended December 31. compared with 17 per cent. in 1933 and 10 DEI‘ cent. in 193-2. ‘xet profits for the year are £58,200 higher at the record amount of £349,800.
Bankruptcy Law.—An address on various aspects of the law of bankruptcy was given by Professor R. M. Algie, Dean of the Faculty of Law at ’Au-ckland University College, at :1 meeting of the Hamilton Accountant Students' Society last evening. Mr L. Champion. president of the society, presided.
Mlshap to Plane.—\Vhen landing at ’l‘auhara Aerodrome. ’l‘aupo. yesterday a Vickers Vildebeeste bomber came to rest with its tail in the air and the propeller buried in the ground. The occupants escaped injury. The machine was somewhat seriously damaged and the repairs will take three or four days.
Power for the Gout—The Hon. R. Semple stated yesterday that to supply‘power to Westlnnd from the Walluki Coleridge system would involve an expenditure of approximately £165,000 on llhe construction alone. This, however, would be much cheaper than the installatlou of local plants and he believed the entel‘pl‘lse would Show a handsome profit to the State.
Hallway Revenue.—An improvement of £6679 1n the working profit of the Railway Depaerent is shown for the first period of tour weeks ended April 25 In the new financial year. The net revenue was £124,370. against “17.691 in 1935. The gross revenue for the whole system was £566,515, an increase of £34,311, and the expenses were £142,115, an increase of £27,632.
Contempt o! court—A warning that his conduct, innocent though it. might he. would be sumcient to commit him for contempt of court, made a blushing Visitor hurriedly hide a newspaper he had been perusing in the Supreme Court at Hamilton today. The incident did not come under the notice of either the Registrar of the Court 01' Mr Justice Fair. who pre—sided. and the warning was issued without ostentation by a police canstable on duty ‘in the public gallery.
Tradesmen in Court—The technicalities of the carpentering trade formed a major point or evidence adduced in the Supreme Court at Hamilton to—day when the theft of a number of tools was preferred against a young man. In the witness-box a carpenter was asked to give a demonstration of drill—ing, and with wood and an automatic push drill supplied by the Registrar of the Court. he entertained Judge, jury and counsel for a few minutes. Mr Justice Fair, obviously interested. asked several questions regarding the utility of the drill and its requisite maintenance.
