The quarterly meeting; of ihe lim—pire Producers‘ Organisation discussed the forthcoming Anglo-Dominion trade negotiations. It was pointed out that the United Kingdom‘s desire to increase primary production, partly to ensure against war risks, must lnvoive the limitation of the market for certain products. The Dominions nevertheless still had scope for expansion in some directions. notably canned fruit, of which the Empire supplied only One—fourth oi‘ the United Kingdom requirements. It. was contended that the existing preference was inadequate, and there ought to be a special nrrangement for 10 or 13 years. Stronger preference would enable the Governments to Ilnance irrigation and growers to plant trees. confident in the stability of con—dltlons.
