"I have attended this show for 23 .\eai's. but i have never looked upon such an inspiring gathering as io-ilay. The importance of the show is illustrated by the attendance of the Prime Minister, who is attending his first official funciion as Premier."——Tile Minister of Agriculture. the Hon. \\’. Lee Martin, speaking at the official opening of the shew yesterday afternoon.

An outstanding exhibit on View at the schools' section of the show is the notebooks of girls from the Sophie—Germain High School, Paris. These exercise books. which were presented to the Hamilton High School. are illustrated with photographs and the lessons are beautifully written.

t t t Traditional Highland costfimes. worn by children making their way to the \\'aikato Winter Show competitions. struck an unusual note or colour in Victoria Street to-day. One little miss who attracted a great deal of attention was arrayed from neck to waistline with medals, presumably won in past contests.

A Southern visitor to the W'aikato \Vlnter Show was greatly impressed with the Institute Court section. especially the large number of entries. I'n speaking to a \\'aikato Times representative he remarked that in the south it, was common to have about three or four courts, as against about 10 or 12 at the \Vaikato Show. The large range of articles and the artistic display \\‘as favourably commented upon. l t II t

An interesting exhibit in the model engineering section at the Show is a large petrol-engined model aeroplane. The machine took one year to build. has a wing span of mm, is 6ft. long and derives its power ‘irom an imported Brown Junior two-stroke engine of 1-5 horse—power. The engine is capable of doing 6000 revolutions per minute. The fuselage and wings are made of silk covered balsa wood, and are finished with “dope." it is ex—pected that the aeroplane when in flight will be capable of a very large range of approximately 50 miles. The whole machine complete with engine weighs only 71135. and is a fine example of patient workmanship and skilled craftsmanship.

Members of the Hamilton St. John Ambulance Brigade were occupied yesterday afternoon in giving atten—tion to several‘women who fainted during and just after the official opening. One woman, a visitor from Pacroa, had a heart attack and re—ceived attention in the room which is being used by the ambulance officers. Attention was also given to a young man who received a bruised foot. The accident occurred through the wheels of the engine of the miniature railway train passing oier his. foot;

In the brass quartette competition at the Show one of the entrants comprised the four sons of Mr F. Knight. of Fairfleld. Their ages ranged from 8 to 16 years. They are members of the \Vaikato Regimental and Hamilton Municipal Band. The competition was won by a quartet/(e from the Cambridge Municipal Band and the Judge stated that the standard of file playing was good. He was particularly impressed by the playing of younger competitors.
