THE WINTER SHOW.
LARGE CROWDS ATTEND INTEREST IN THE EXHIBITION. “The greatest show Hamilton has ever seen,” was the verdict of the record crowds who thronged the Waikato Winter Show yesterday and inspected this year’s exhibition for the first time. It was anticipated that the attendance on opening day would be a large one, and the patronage extended to the show yesterday was right up to expectations. An indication of the crowds may be gauged from the fact that the door takings exceeded last year’s first day record by £94. Today the great halls were thronged again with many visitors and keen interest was evinced in the fine array of exhibits and commercial and industrial displays. Special trains from Te Kuiti and Taumarunui were crowded with excursionists, and these further augmented the throng of town and country visitors to the show. The opening of the music, dancing and elocution competitions to-day created a great deal of interest, and the sessions were well attended. Record entries have been received for these classes this year, and the judging will extend over several days, culminating with a prize-winners’ concert.
