Italian propaganda, which Is undoubtedly fanning the flames ' of terrorism in Palestine, is Increasing elsewhere In the Near Eat. especially in Egypt, where the success or the Abyssinian campaign has encouraged large sections of the public to fear that Italy's might ls overshadowing that of Britain. The ruthless use of poison can has occasioned widespread apprehenslon lest Egypt be Involved In a struggle with so ruthless an adversary. The Italian community, which is the second largest foreign colony 1n Egypl, have little ditllculty in spread—ing Fascist propaganda, and the British authorities are gravely concerned and realise that the situation demands the greatest dexterity. i The Italian Foreign Office is ex-i pectetl to renew its efforts to persuade ‘ Egypt to sign a treaty of non—aggres- ; slon, with the object of dividing l‘lgyp— i tion opinion by suggesting that if‘ Italy guarantees the territorial integvi rity of Egypt there will be no neces- i sity for Egypt to concede the British military demands. _ i It is stated, however, that Egyptian \ politicians do not trust Italian goodti faith. The Italian arguments. nevertheless, are unsettling the public, as in thel case of Palestine.
