The Arabs retaliated with stones from roofs, injuring many of the police. Troops who were ordered to assist English families in the neighbourhood ‘owlng to tears of terrorism, brought them into the police barracks. Lieutenant—General Sir Arthur \Vauchope, speaking at an Empire Day celebration at the Levant Fair in Tel Aviv, declared that no strike or violence would cause the Government to deflect one jot from its determination to discharge fully its mandatory obligallons.
