THE RYMILL EXPEDITION. ___. ‘ FURTHER DISOOVERIES MADE. FLIGHT OVER LAUBEUF FIORD. United Press Assn—Else. Tel. Copyright LONDON, May 26. In a world copyright message to the Times. dated May 6. Mr J. ln'mill, or South Australia, leader of the Ant—arctic expedition now in Graham Land, says:— Eince the discovery of new land southward the expedition has made further discoveries northward 01‘ our present hasc. Marguerite Bay, in a night over Lauheuf Fiord, which is a. steep-waited cleft between two high mountain regions. So high was the east side that Messrs Hampton and Stevenson could not see what was beyond. Gharcot bo— that a second strait, which he named Lallemand Fiord, might extend between Matha and Marguerite Bays, parallel wlth and eastward of Laubeuf t-‘iurd.
After taking off from Argentine 15— land in good weather conditions at 3 p.m. on March ill, .\lessrs Hampton and Stevenson returned at sunset. having haul a most satisfactory flight. Lau; hour Fiord proved to be the only through channel between the bays. The whole region eastward is mainland. Lallenmnd Fiord is only a buy lying south of Matha Bay. The aeroplane llew over the entire length of a wlde low-lying snowfleld in a valley leadlng through the mountains to Marguerite Bay.
We now know the trend of the major flords, what parts of the moun—luin groups form islands and what, are mainland promontorles. We possess also a map indicating in some detail the “195?. Graham Land coast from the old base to the newly—discovered mountain as far as Alexander Island, a dlstance of about 400 miles; The north part or the coastline has been properly surveyed. There remains a ground survey of the southern section.
The main \(‘ol‘k in the coming season will be the exploration of the little—known Graham Land Antarctic coast south—eastward lo Luilpold Land and south—westward to Charcot Land.
