CURRENT PROGRAMMES. THEATRE ROYAL. “Flying Down to Rio" tells a romantic and sensational story, with Dolores Del Rio, Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers and 'Gene Raymond in the featured roles. l't - deals with a millionaire playboy who seeks his thrills in a "flying piano" with which he travels to remote spots or roars through the air, composing music as he goes for his Jazz band, the “Yankee Clippers.“ He has a passion for girls, and 4115 flirtatious with them causes his orchestra to lose one job after another, much to the annoyance of his pal (Fred Astaire). When he meets a Brazilian beauty (Dolores Del Rio) romantic and exciting things happen. The big scene is a show given on the wings of airplanes—girls dancing and singing, the air filled with music, ballet dancers performing as they drop to the earth in parachutes. and adagic dancers hurling their part—ners from one ‘plane to another. “Mlm Trailer" deals with the amus—ing and thrilling adventures of a cowboy in Hollywood. with Buck Jones as the riding, fighting and shooting hero. Dorothy Revier is the attractive girl in the case. OIVIO THEATRI. Kay Francis is an actress who has the rare combination of beauty, grace and acting ability, and 'her latest film, “I Found Stella Parish," gives her more scope to reveal her talents than any other of her recent pictures. The film concerns a. leading actress, bent ion keeping her past life a secret for the benefit of her child :when her reputation is threatened with exposure. She flees to_America, but a reporter follows her and reveals her story. How. ,vvhen he learns the Wrong he has done her, he endeavours to make amends, leads to an ‘unu‘sual climax whlo his marked 'by artistic acting and sensitive treatment. Fine though Kay Francis' performance is, a Child actress, Sybil Jason, goes near to “stealing" the picture with as imltflfected a portrayal as has been seen on the screen. lan Hunter acts well in the chief male role, and strong support is given by Paul Lukas, who gives a sympathetic interpretation of what could have been a colourless role, Jessie Ralph and Walter Kingston. “ THE MUSIC GOES ROUND." Tuneful and refreshing entertainment is the keynote 01' “The Music Goes Round," to be screened on Fri—day. The film is particularly notable for the introduction of the song “The; Music Goes Round and Around.“ The picture starts with a typical American battle of words. The participants are a. New York theatrical producer and a popular stage and radio artist. Roch—elle Hudson, Michael Bartlett and Harry Richman are the principals. ROXY THEATRE. Two outstanding attractions will be screened to—day. “Gallente” is a colourful and spectacular film, telling a dramatic story of Mexico, and fliiedi with romance, action, comedy, music‘ and dancing. Dolores Del Rio and. Pat O'Brien have the romantic leads.‘ and others in the cast are Leo Carillo, i Glenda Farrell, Edward Everett Horton, thc Demarcos and the Geneva family. “Great Hotel Mystery" is a thrilling murder mystery that keeps the audience guessing and gasping. The trail of the killer is followed in a series of exciting sequences, and the solving of the mystery brings the film to an exciting climax. Edmund Lowe and Victor McLaglen give fine performances and 'receive excellent support from Rosemary Ames, Mary Cal—lisle and others. REGENT THEATRE. The exciting theme of “Exclusive Story" is told in the lives of a group of people who are in one way or an~ other affected ‘hy the machinations of the gang bosses. A beautiful girl, daughter of a “policy racket“ victim, appeals to a great metropolitan news—paper'for aid. With her 'help and in—formation the paper’s young attorney and crack reporter bring to a dramatic close the supremacy of the gang. Frunchot 'i‘one portrays the attorney and .\ladge Evans the girl. Both players have distinguished themselves recently in other films, and give even flner perforinznices in "Exclusive Story." Heading the featured cast are Stuart Erwin in the role of the crusading reporter and Joseph Callcia as “Ace Acello.” other players are liobert Barret, J. Farrell MacDonald. Louise Henry, Margaret Irving. \Vade Boieler, UharlEs ’l‘rowbrldgc, William Henry, Raymond liatton and J. Carol .\‘aisli. STATE THEATRE. "This Man Is Mine" is a stirring comedy—drama filled with romance and action and lightened with plenty of humour.
