Great Exhibition Opened.
REfIEX 0f DISIRICT’S PROGRESS TOWN AND COUNTRY UNITE ALL PREVIOUS RECORDS SURPASSED. DOMINION’S DAIRY WEALTH DISPLAYED.
Shattering all previous records from the aspect of entries and the number and standard of exhibits, the thirtieth annual exhibition of the Waikato Winter Show Association was officially opened this afternoon by the Prime Minister, the Right Hon. M. J. Savage, for a season of eight days and eight nights. Thousands of people from all parts of the province and further afield, assembled at the Show buildings in Ward Street, and joined with speakers at the opening ceremony in warm commendation of the magnificent display of the district’s productive wealth.
This year’s show fully upholds Hamilton’s reputation as the venue for the Dominion’s greatest exhibition, and the association has every reason to be proud of the result of its efforts. The show represents the unity of town and country in a great review of New Zealand’s primary and secondary industries, and in bringing these sections together in a common interest it has produced an exhibition both comprehensive and interesting.
A featue again is the fine array of the Dominion’s dairy produce in the butter and cheese divisions, which have attracted entries from factories in all parts of the Dominion. The entries, numbering over 1200, are claimed as a world record as far as a dairy section is concerned, and they can be truly classed as representing the apex of New Zealand dairy produce quality. '
