Lawlessness is increasing in the country districts of Palestine. especially in the Nablus area. about 40 miles north of Jerusalem, which claims the political leadership of Arab towns. Raiders hidden on the sides of hills are repeatedly attacking the armoured cars of the troops and the police and sometimes firing volleys. The troops invariably return the fire, but. the Al‘abs‘ casualties are difficult to discover, as they carry off their dead and wounded. Warnings from the so-called Black Hand organisation are being distributed among the British troops urging them not to walk in the streets if they value their lives. Arabs barricaded the streets of Nablus and threw stones and tired from the roofs of houses when the police attempted to clear the thorough—fares. .Seafort'h Highlanders arrived on the scene and tired, killing two Arabs and wounding four. while another died from fright. The mob attacked again, but once more was dis—persed. Firing From the Hills.
