TE AWAMUTU MEETING. . OVERHANGING TREES PROBLEM (Times Representative). TE AWAMUTU, Monday. The fortnightly meeting of the Te Awamutu Borough Council was held last evening, the Mayor, Mr G. Spinloy. presiding. Also present were Messrs \\’. .1. North. G. Gifford, A. Brown. 1). Wallace, H. C. liainey and J. C. Mantefiore. The town clerk, Mr D. Beckett was in attendance. Leave 01 absence was granted Mr G. O. Jour(lain. The league and finance committee reported that Mr Raincy had been appointed as successor to Mr Gifford in the position or chairman of the commitiee. Commenting on the new schedule or pay to relief workers the Mayor said that the Unemployment. Board would pay each mnn 5:2 {is a week. the couneil to pay £1 55. The stipulation was made, that the men should he engaged on eertaln speeineil works. Permission was granted to the Te Awamuiu Fire Brigade to erect a movable 25ft. demonstration and prac« tice tower in Albert Park. Rates Position. Hominenting on the rates for the present. year, the Mayor said there was only :1 slight. increase. on last. year. representing approximately 1s 5d per £IOO of rates paid. The council‘s attention was drawn. by a. letter from the Te Awamutu

branch of the Farmers‘ Union, to the fact that rsgwort was being allowed to {lower profusely within the herough. _\lr Gifford said that, the ragwort ‘ must have come from other parts of the country. The Mayor admitted that there had been a good deal of ragwort about but it had been cleared us far as was possible and he. did not know of any badly infested areas in the borough. The financial committee was authorv ised to have new stage curtain in—stalled in the Town Hall.
