NEW PORTFOLIO. MR NASH APPOINTED. (By Telegraph—Special to Times.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The Prime Minister. the Flight. lion. M. J. Savage, announced yesterday that the new portfolio of Minister 01’ Marketing had been ofiered to the lion. \\'. Nash and accepted by him. Mr G. A. Duncan, 3. member of the Executive Commission of Agriculture. has been appointed assistant director of marketing in connection with dairy produce and also acting—director of the new department of marketing. Ills special duty will be to take charge of the marketing of dairy produce. He will be responsible for the organisation or the new department, the planning of its work, and for assisting generally in the administration of the Government‘s marketing policy. In making the announcement of Mr Duncan‘s appointment, Mr Nash stated: “ Until the Department ot-Marketing has been fully organised and has been authorised to take charge at the marketins or other commodities than dairy produce the Government proposes to use the services of the Commission of Agriculture (of which Mr Duncan will continue a member). " When the department has been , completely organised the lunctions of the commission \\'lli be assumed by the department. The commission as such will then no longer be required and the position or its members will he reviewed in the light of the conditions then existing: “ The establishment of the new de—partment will necessarily involve a revision of the functions of the New Zealand Dairy Board and a consequent reorganisation of the stat! of the board. The Act provides that members of the Dairy Board‘s staff mav be appointed to positions in the department and the Government recognises that it will be necessary to arrange to take over the London stat! and members of the New Zealand staff 0! the board. These mat. ters will be discussed with the board at an early date and a further announcement will be made in due course."
