KERBSIDE PUMPS.
TE AWAMUTU DISCUSSION. BOROUGH COUNCIL‘S DECISION. (Times Representative). TE A\VA.\IUTU, Monday. At the fortnightly meeting of the Te Awumutu Borough council last evening, information ‘was sought by Messrs Newton King Limited, New Plymouth, with regard to the erection of petrol pumps outside their proposed new buildings on the corner or Arawnta and George Streets. The Mayor. Mr G. Spinley, said that the council had barred kerbside pumps in certain streets. It the ilrm had applied for permission to raise the pumps six weeks ago no objection would have been made but now the council’s resolution barred the appli—cation. An inspection of the plans of the new premises had shown him that there was provision for the erection of the pumps on the property. He pointed out that Arawata Street was a wide one and it was a question of whether the public would be caused more inconvenience by pumps on the kerbside or by cars traversing the footpath to reach the pumps on the flrm‘s property. Mr Montenore said before the application to erect the pump could be granted the council's earlier resolution would have to be altered to exempt Arewate Street. Replying, the Mayor said Arawata Street had not been intended to be included in the prohibition enforced by the resolution. The opinion that it would be better to allow the erection of the pumps on the kerbside was expressed by Mr Monteflore who gave notice to move that A-rawata Street be exempted from the earlier resolution. it was decided to request the firm concerned to prepare plans allowing for the erection of the pumps as far as possible from the corner of George and Arawata Streets.
