Owing to lack of enthusiasm the Matamata Boxing Association has decided to lie dormant. so far as tournaments are concerned, but to continue its school. Mr R. L. Sutcliire, treasurer, reported at a recent meeting— held to consider the matter that the “gates" at the last three tournaments had been £42, £27 and £ll. At least £3O was necessary to cover expenses at a tournament. But for the generosity of boxers. trainers and others a very heavy deficit would have had to be faced. As it was the association had a credit haiunce or £9 105. Despite the interest in Pluto's matches the speaker lleldjhero was a Jack of interest in boxing throughout the Dominion, but that it the New Zealand competitors at the Olympic Games could \\'in a title or titles then they could expect a boom on their re—turn. The president. Mr \V. D. L. MacDonald. and the secretary, Mr G. G. Grimths, con» firmed this view and action was taken as tindlcated.
