; RECENT PRISON TROUBLE. i " SYSTEM WORKING WELL." (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Monday. A statement that. there will be no public inquiry into the recent .\lount Eden Prison trouble was made by the lion. H. G. R. .\lason, Minister of Justice. interviewed to-day. lie said the present system was working well. Five or six' years ago the New Zealand prison population averaged 1300 to 1600 and now had dropped to 1000 or 1100. The .\linisler invited any responsible person or body, if it had evidence or injustice done to any man owing to the operalion or the Hahitual.Criminals Act. to bring it to his attention.
