“MILITARY EVENING.”
} GUESTS ENTERTAINED ‘ ORPHANS’ CLUB MEETS. ‘ The occasion of the celebration of a “military evening“ drew a capacity house at a meeting of the Hamilton Orphans' Club, held at the ITechnical Collage Assembly Hall on Saturday evening.\ The vice-president, Mr H. J. Ferguson, presided. In addition to the complement of members there were also present the Mayor, .\lr J. 11. Fow. Sir Alexander Young. a represen—tation of members or the \Vaikato Regiment. including Colonel R. V. Glossy. .\lajor F. D. Pini’old, Major A. E. Gibbons. Major R. F. Ward, Major J. G. Bateson. Captain W. 'R. Daysh, Captain C. Oxenham, M.C.. Captain J. H. Senrle, Captain J. C. Hepburn. and Captain C. L. Brett, other omcers of the regiment. and a contingent from the volunteer corps. An apology was received from the lllght Hon. J. G. Coates, who was unable to be present. He extended his best wishes for the success of the evening. The guests were welcomed by the chairman \\'hobrlei‘ly outlined the inception and growth or the Walkato Regiment. in the course or the evening Mr A. E. Sandford, a former president, was appointed a guardian of the club, and was awarded the medal of that ofllce. A variety or musical numbers was given by the Orphans‘ orchestra, in—cluding a medley of military airs . A strong supporting programme was presented as follows. Messrs R. Newton (songs), Rex Yates (Auckland) (elocution); instrumental quartette (members Waikato Regiment), Messrs E. H. Quill (songs), George Kingston (tap dancing). Lee (comet solos), G. Wheeler (songs).
