The event is regarded as a useful l”DiD€-opener” for the amateur vchsmpionship at St. Andrews, Ferrier was ono of 130 entrants, among whom was the holdrr of the tassle, Sweeney (South Al'rlcal, Lorke and other stars. Perrier gave a magnificent perform—ance in the first round over the King's course, which he did in ’72. He tied for the leading place with the multimillionaire -Cnptnin Francis, of Dundee. The Australian's second round on the Queen's course in the afternoon was done in 68. making his aggregate 1110. He played faultlessly. his iron shots dropping round the pin, but at the 18th he took three putts which prevented his tieing \\'ith the amateur record of 67. Ferrlcr‘s aggregate is the lowest by which the tussle has ever been won. The nearest is Cyril 'l‘olley's Ht in 1925. Locke and Sweeney finished with MS). Other scores \\'crczfln.
