E The opening day or the winter meet‘lug of the Waiketo Racing Club was ‘one of the most successful in the club's post-war history. There was a large attendance and the racing throughout was or a high standard Following the recent flue spell the racing surface was in splendid order. The weather throughout the day was perfect. The big race of the day provided a spectacular contest, the veteran, Billy Boy, who was at long odds to win. prevailing after the favourites had fallen at various stages of the Jour—ney. Jolly Beggar won the hurdles decisively from Black Marlin and Sport—ing Song, while the only other favourite to win on the day was Le Chasseur who annexed the opening event, the Maiden Handicap.
