STEVENS. _ y The death occurred In Hamilton yes—terday afternoon of Miss Ada .\larion (.\linna) Stevens, well-known as a sec—retary of the Hamilton Ladies‘ Golf Club, a keen worker for St. Peter‘s Cathedral, and a foundation member of the Lyceum Cluib. : The late .\iiss Steven‘s, who was the ‘eldest child of Mrs and the late Mr P. E. Stevens, a former headmaster ,of the Hamilton East School. was Iborn in Auckland and spent the early years of her life in ’l‘auranga before leaving with her family for Hamilton. , .\liss Stevens was keenly interested ‘in the Hamilton Ladies‘ Golf Club, act—‘ing as secretary for 15 years before Ishe was made a life member of the club in 1933. For many years she lasted on the committee of the lLyeeum Club. She was an enthusiastic church worker and, with a great affection for the St. Peter's Cathedral, assisted its progress in many ,ways, including Sunday School teaching over a long period. Miss Stevens is survived ‘by her mother, Mrs P. E. Stevens, of Hamilton, a brother, Mr F. A. Stevens, of Hemuera and two sisters, Mrs J. A. ,Keily, and .\lrs E. Nickle, of .\launga—i lautari. i , “ ‘ MR HUGH HUNTER. The death occurred in Hamiltm toay of Mr Hugh Hu‘nter, aged '7B years. Born in Gceloug, .\ustralia, the late Mr Hunter came over to New Zealand in the sailing ship Thomas Fletcher, under the command of Captain Steele, who later commanded the Fourth \\‘ai—keto Regiment. ’l‘hey landed at Onehunga and the party arrived in Hamil,ton on August 24, 1864. , The late Mr Hunter was only a lad ‘at the time and he had a clear recollection of many skirmishes with the Maoris. Later he took up labouring work and for some time was engaged in a bakery business at Otorohanga. He then went timber milling and was an employee (If Messrs Ellis and Burnand Ltd., at the mills at .\langapeehi and .\lananui He had been li\‘lng in retirement in Hamilton for the past 12 years.
The late Mr Hunter was a bachelor and is survived by Your sisters—Mrs L. Burnand, .\lananul; Mrs H. West, .\‘garuawahia; .\lrs \V. L. West, Waiuku; Mrs C. L.
